Their Very Own Hungry Caterpillars

Today was the first in the series of children's art workshops.  The theme was "Eric Carle Inspired Art".  We started off by reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and the children looked through other Eric Carle books.  They learned about Eric Carle's technique of painting then cutting out shapes to make a collage.  They used lots of different textures and materials to paint these colorful caterpillar creations!

We used marshmallows and cotton balls for the multi-colored dots at the bottom
There were 6 tables with circles, paint and different paint tools... bubble wrap, paper bags, sponges, feathers and more!
Putting the circles together to make a caterpillar
Finished product!
Although this was the first in the series, it's also the last for this round.  The next five classes have been cancelled because I have decided to return to work full-time and will no longer be available during the week.  But I hope to offer more classes, playdates and parties on the weekends, so check back over the summer to see what will be offered!

Beautiful Butterflies

Today the Mom's Meet-Up of Columbia County had me do a class for their playgroup.  We had children ages infant to 5 years old.  And yes, the babies got to paint, too!
We talked about it being spring, and the colors outside and the colors of butterflies.  Each table had examples of butterfly art... all very different:

Then the children got to create watercolor butterflies made out of coffee filters, wooden clothes pins and pipe cleaners

This project is an oldie, but a goodie, especially when dealing with such a range of ages.  The older children used paint brushes and sponges with the watercolors.  Some children preferred to dab some paint here and there, while others filled up every inch with color.
A separate table was set up for the younger toddlers and babies (lots of help from mom).  They had 3 modified versions of the project: shaking around a can or gallon zip lock bag with the coffee filter and sponges dipped in paint (look ma, no messy hands!) and also ice painting with several colors of gelatin mix on the coffee filters.

They turned out very colorful!

Nice work everyone!  Thanks for having Half Pint Paint come to the playdate today!

Bringing Jasper John to Knob Hill

The Knob Hill Neighborhood Playgroup had a Half Pint Paint playdate today! The toddler and preschool aged children created Jasper Johns-inspired art (by the way... did you know this legend was born in our very own Augusta, GA?) After seeing samples of Johns' work, we created our own... we used cool and warm colors, finger painted on a newspaper collage, and finished off with letter cut-outs.  The kids also used q-tips as a fun paint tool for the letters.
I was so impressed by how the finishing pieces turned out.  All similar in design, but so different in style!

Registration News

I am so excited to say that our first class on May 2nd is almost full!
And thank you to everyone who has been so patient with our online registration system.  It's been a learning process for me, as this is my first time using this company for event marketing and management.  Several people contacted me to say that they got an error message when they tried to register, and after talking to the website company, it is a known glitch they are trying to fix.  For some reason it sporadically  doesn't like when people select the "pay with check" option.  So....
I have taken that option off the registration form, but if you would prefer to pay with a check over PayPal, you still can.  Just email me at halfpintpaintclass@gmail.com with your name, childrens' names and ages, class date, and I would be more than happy to manually register your child and accept your payment by check.
Thanks again for your patience and wonderful response to our workshops!

Introducing .... Half Pint Paint!

What do we teach our children? . . .
We should say to each of them:
Do you know what you are?
You are a marvel. You are unique . . .
You may become a Shakespeare,
a Michelangelo, a Beethoven.
You have the capacity for anything.
-Pablo Picasso

Nothing warms my heart like seeing a child discover something for the first time, to learn a new skill, to show off a talent...  and I love to see the world through the eyes of a child.  Art has always been a passion of mine, and after teaching young children and having children of my own, I have seen "that look" on a child's face when they hold up their masterpiece with such pride.
I am excited about introducing this program to our community and bringing a little color to the lives of parents and children.  Be sure to follow our blog and facebook page for information on what we plan to offer.  And please don't hesitate to contact us at halfpintpaintclass@gmail.com or (706) 877-1979 with any questions or to go ahead and book a party today!
